Parental Issues

Clearly it has been a while since I have posted a picture of the love of my life, Isabella. So here is a picture to satisfy everyone's needs. Please look at her and admire. It's ok, I will wait for you.

*hums tune to self while waiting*

OK... now this leads me to something that happened a few weeks ago and pissed me off. A lot. While having brunch with some friends, the discussion turned to our cats. All three women in the room had cats, of various types and ages. It goes without saying that none of us has children, so our feline children become the next best conversation substitute. In the midst of this discussion, both of my friends (this label will be reviewed) turned on me to point out the ways in which I was a "bad mother", and further, went on to say that they "worry if I should have kids". They implied that Isabella is spoilt and misbehaves, and that I indulge her and am the worst of all kitty parents.

I can't tell you how pissed off I was. I was so pissed off, I couldn't even respond!

Apparently the fact that their cats destroy their furniture, attack their legs, are fussy eaters, sloth around with no thought for playing and make a break for it the moment the door opens - is all irrelevant apparently.

So tell me - is there a relationship between cat behaviour and parenting skills? Is there any reason why people feel the need to say such thing to a friend? Should I have just told them all to royally fuck themselves?

Your thoughts appreciated.

Cath dear heart, do you not know that Cats have staff and Dogs have owners - thereby indicating that you have little to no influence on Isabella's behaviour, she will do as she pleases when she pleases and for however long she pleases and you shall indulge her every whim. She looks a darling and I am sure that she is a delight to you everyday as my darling little furballs are to me and yes tell your snotty friends to fuck the hell off and their cats are ugly & stupid anyway - I am in your corner all the way Cheers Kerri

Cats definitely do not get trained, they just exist in your space making sure they do enough "cute" things to keep them in favour and eating and sleeping. My gorgeous cat, Jazz, is 11 years old soon and she is just a dude of a cat. Many cat haters actually like my cat.

Is it due to my "mothering"? Fuck no, it is her cat personality. Anyone who thinks you can train a a cat needs a kick up the anus.

You cannot parent a cat. It is most likely that they parent you.

There is a saying, "A dog accepts you as the boss...a cat wants to see your resume."

Thanks for the time to admire the pic. I used it wisely. She's quite the cutie.

In response to your question. No fucking clue. I don't have kids. Not expecting any. Do they take into account that Isabella's personality may be part of the reason she's 'spoilt' and 'misbehaved'? I think not. She looks like a rex and they are extremely mischievous. They are among the most mischievous of all the cat breeds.

So yeah, I'd go tell em to fuck themselves.

Thank you all for your thoughtful comments. Well spotted phish - she is indeed a Rex - Devon Rex. And she is quite the little minx. I feel vindicated by my bad thoughts about these friends of mine.....

Yeh, tell them to get stuffed - Rexes can be right little shits, it's just their nature- that you have one that (I don't think) doesn't trash your house and crawl inside your couch and the like is to your credit!
